lyrics

Oh Well

I handled the serpent because I believed he wouldn’t strike
And then he bit me

And afterwards he bit I believed I would not die
And then it hit me

After I died I believed I would not go to hell
Oh well

I drank poison from a cup because I believed it would taste like wine
It burned like fire

The preacher said he’d heal me so I believed I would be fine
He was a liar

While in the poison’s spell I believed I would not go to hell
Oh well

I said I don’t belong, Satan, set me free
And then he leaned in close to me
He said trust me, man, and I will treat you well
I trusted but I’m still in hell
Oh well

I held scorpions in my hand because I believed I’d not be harmed
They started stinging

I felt venom in my veins but I believed that I was charmed
Heard angels singing

And as the darkness fell I believed I would not go to hell
Oh well
